International Sports Federation of Fire fighters & Rescuers (ISFFR)

International Sports Federation of Fire fighters and Rescuers was established in September 2001 the I World Conference of fire fighting and rescuing services heads took the decision to set up the organization to promote and develop fire fighting and rescuing sport, to run international competitions and to represent the interests of fire fighters’ and rescuers’ sport at the international sports organizations.

 

The conference voted for Mr. Sergey Shoigu, the Minister of the Russian Federation for civil defense, emergencies and elimination of consequences of natural disasters (EMERCOM of Russia) to become the President of the Federation. On December 10, 2001 the Charter of the ISFFR was adopted by the Federation’s extraordinary meeting (Protocol No. 1). The Charter was officially registered on January 21, 2002 and Moscow was chosen as the seat of organization’s headquarters.

 

According to the Federation’s Charter all major decisions are taken by the members of the federation at the regular and/or ad hoc general meetings/conferences which are the organization’s supreme body. At these conferences Executive Committee reports and decisions are approved, amendments and changes to the rules of competitions are adopted, decisions to adopt new members to the Federation are made. All the conferences’ resolutions are taken by a simple majority vote. The ISFFR current day-to-day activity is performed by the Federation’s Executive Committee, headed by the Director, Mr. Andrey Kalinin.

 

From the time of its creation ISFFR has being vigorously promoting and developing fire fighting and rescuing sports acting in full correspondence with its goals and objectives put in the Charter, and enjoying the energetic support of the national organizations of the founding countries. From September 11 through September 17 the 1st ever World Championship among the fire fighters and rescuers was held in Moscow. Athletes of 21 countries took part in it.

 

So at present the Federation consists of member-organizations of several countries from Europe and Asia, but the athletes and fire fighters’ and rescuers’ organizations from some other countries demonstrate the interest towards ISFFR and participate in some events and competitions run by the Federation. The national unions of fire fighters and rescuers from Poland, China, Nepal, Pakistan, France, Greece, Sweden, Italy and other countries are among them.

 

For a couple of years passed from the time of its formation the following tournaments were held under the aegis of the ISFFR: Asia Cup of 2002 (Zelenogorsk, Russia), I World Championship in 2002 (Moscow, Russia), I European Championship in 2003 (St. Petersburg, Russia), Asia Cup of 2003 (Vladivostok, Russia), II World Championship in 2004 (Minsk, Republic of Belarus).

 

In accordance with the official schedule of the ISFFR international events for 2005 adopted at the V International Conference in Sekechfehervar in December of 2004, it was decided that the II Open European Championship will be held in September 6-11, 2005, in Ostrava (Czech Republic), the next World Championship of 2006 - in Iran and the annual ISFFR Conference - in December of 2005 in Togliatti, Russia.
