History:

In 1964 the Latvian Federation of Firefighting Applied Sport was established. The existing Latvian Federation of Firefighting Sport was founded in the year of 2000.

The first ever tournament on firefighter's sport was held back in 1937 by the Home Ministry of the country.Teams of volonteer fire fighters took part in it.

In April 16-17 of 1945 the tournament of the Riga garrison, and in September of 1947 - the country's championship were arranged. From 1961 on the Latvian teams have been taking part in the Baltic states championships. In 1978 first international tournament was held in Riga.

Every year national championships are held where 30 teams of fire fighters and rescuers are taking part.

Records:

1. Training tower climbing with hook ladder - 13.34 sec. - Yurgis Shpiguns;

2. 100 m. run - 16.3 sec. - USSR Championship of 1976;

3. Double event - 30.34 sec. - Viktor Kipreenko, 1998.

The first Latvian champion, Viktor Rubens, won his title in 1945.

The best athlets: Nikolai Sorokin, Viktor Chavkin, Yuris Shpiguns.

Latvian national team couches: Aleksandr Klitonchik and Vikenti Rosgals.
